I hope you are ready for a very long and bumpy journey!

This website page is a visual representation of the entire history of the Earth and its existence. If you were to squeeze time onto one page it would look like this, where one pixel on your screen represents 10,000 years.

On this to scale timeline we will encounter the evolution of life, multiple mass extinctions, every known supercontinent, and all of the world’s most amazing natural and geological phenomenon!

The geologist Derek V. Ager once likened the history of Earth to a soldier - “The history of any one part of the Earth, like the life of a soldier, consists of long periods of boredom and short periods of terror”.

We shall see if he was correct. Let’s start scrolling…

Well done, you've reached the end!

Feeling significantly insignificant? I’m sure you are. Well done for reaching this far (unless you cheated and skipped to the end!). Mother Nature is truly awe inspiring and the Earth is one amazing place too. But don’t let this make you feel insignificant. Your life is so amazing that you should treasure the fact that you are even able to read and comprehend this paragraph. In my eyes that makes me feel very humble and very significant.

About "The History of Earth on one page"

Hello! My name is Giordano Battistel. I am a secondary school geography and science teacher with BSc Geology and MSc Petroleum Geoscience degrees.

I made this website so that everyone and anyone regardless of age or background can appreciate their existence on this incredible planet and how long the Earth (and humans) have been around for. Not many people truly understand the timescales involved in making a planet, let alone how old the universe is. This page will give you a different perspective and a sense of scale.

I would like to make this site a collaborative one. If you are a scientific researcher in any field and you would like to suggest something to put on the timeline, if you have any contradictions to the information I have used, then please contact me. I may also be planning to make this page a base for scientific debate, whereby you can comment on timeline entries and post your own research or arguments. This is not currently available but may be in the future.

If you have any other questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.

I hope you enjoy the site!
